Driving a Lot for Work and Avoiding Car Collisions in Homestead

If your workplace continues to be open with the COVID-19 pandemic, you may still be driving to work frequently right now, and that can still mean you are concerned about car crashes in Homestead or your community. Even though the rush hour may be less rushed, there are still risks. You can still be in an accident and in fact the situation right now, with its worries and distractions, can be a danger on the road.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to help reduce your risk:

  • Drive yourself if you can: Try to avoid carpooling or taking crowded public transit if you can. Keep in mind that some people may have no symptoms of COVID-19 but may still be able to spread the virus. Sharing a closed space may expose you to the virus. If you do need to take public transit, do so during off-peak hours and stay about six feet from other passengers.
  • Give yourself plenty of time: Giving yourself extra time lets you obey the speed limits and gives you time to focus on driving instead of on getting to your destination on time.
  • Consider remote work if you can: Right now, many workplaces are switching to remote work where possible. This helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 and can also reduce your risk of exposure. While this is not possible for every job, take advantage if you can.
  • Get adequate rest: With all the worries right now, some Hollywood residents and Florida residents are experiencing sleep disturbances and this can lead to fatigued driving and possible crashes. Keep alert to any changes in sleep patterns. If you find you are more tired than usual, consider having another member of your household drive you. Seek medical help if you find yourself exhausted.
  • Turn off the news: You may be tempted to keep up with what is happening, but listening to the new right now can be distracting and distressing. If possible, turn off notifications and even the radio. Listen to soothing music if you need some background noise, but avoid anything which takes your mind off the road.
  • Drive defensively: Now more than ever it is important to be aware of your surroundings as you drive and to be alert for people who are driving erratically. As streets become less busy, not everyone is following speed limits and traffic rules. Some drivers are experiencing high stress, are driving unwell, or may be upset, which can contribute to poor choices behind the wheel. Always think two or three moves ahead and drive defensively.
