Who Will Pay for Your Car Crash?

If you have been in a car accident in Hollywood, Homestead, Miami, or any South Florida community, you may realize pretty quickly that the collision may be expensive. You may get a hospital bill right away if you have been injured and if your injuries are serious you may soon realize that your medical costs will be quite high. You may experience an immediate loss of wages if you have to lose time at work. If your car was damaged, you may immediately need to pay for a rental or for car repairs.

The costs can quickly add up. Where can you find the money to pay for all your medical costs and other expenses? Depending on the specifics of your situation, there may be a few options:

1) Your insurance.

After your collision, you’ll need to contact your insurer right away. Your car insurance and medical coverage may take care of a large portion of your costs. However, agreeing to an insurance payout can also affect your ability to get compensation from other sources, so work with an attorney before signing any insurance documents to make sure you get fair benefits for all your injuries.

2) The other driver and their insurance.

If another driver caused your collision, you may be able to file a claim against them and their insurance carrier. To find out whether you qualify, contact a car accident lawyer in Hollywood or your community.

3) Other liable parties.

Sometimes, car crashes are caused by poor signs, badly maintained roads, defective car parts, inadequate street lights, or other issues. In these situations, there may be other liable parties (such as a municipality, car manufacturer, or others) in your claim. An attorney can launch an investigation to find and pursue these parties.

4) Your employer and their insurance.

If your accident occurred on the job or while you were driving a company car, you may be covered by workers’ compensation. Your employer may also be able to offer you some benefits – such as sick leave – after your accident, even if the accident doesn’t count as a workplace injury.

5) The government.

If you have been seriously, permanently injured in a car accident, Social Security and other benefits may be available for you. Many legitimate claims are denied at first, however, so if you qualify for benefits you may want to work with an attorney to help you secure the compensation you may be entitled to.

6) You.

Any costs not covered by insurance or claims need to come out of your own pocket. Since an injury can cost anywhere from tens of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars for a serious, permanent injury, you’ll want to make sure you get compensation you are entitled to. Without it, you may find your savings and finances severely threatened.
