Car Accidents and Broken Bones

Fractures are among the most common injuries in Hollywood car accidents. That’s because when a car comes to a sudden stop during a crash the impact can throw you forward. If you come into contact with any solid object (like the dashboard or a laptop that’s been thrown around by the collision) that’s enough force to break a bone.

Many people underestimate the cost and impact of a fracture. Don’t make that mistake. Always get a medical evaluation after your accident and contact Flaxman Law Group for a free consultation with a Hollywood car accident attorney. Our father-son attorney team can help you understand how much your broken bone can cost you and we can explore any options you might have to seek compensation to cover that cost.

Common Bone Fractures in Hollywood Car Accidents

Many bones can be broken in a Hollywood car crash. The most common fractures affect the ribs, wrists, arms, tibia/fibula, legs and feet, femur, and clavicle. Such injuries can cause swelling, pain, and difficulty with mobility. They can include:

  • Simple/closed fractures, which don’t break the surface of the skin and can usually be treated with a cast.
  • Compound/open fractures, which cause an open wound because bone breaks through the surface of the skin, creating the risk of infection and further complications.
  • Transverse fractures, which happen when a bone breaks in a straight line that is perpendicular to the bone (so if you picture your leg bones as being in an “up and down” position, a transverse fracture would be horizontal).
  • Oblique fractures, which are breaks that happen at an angle.
  • Comminuted fractures, which involve bones that are broken in two or more places, which can complicate recovery.
  • Segmental fractures, which also involve at least two breaks, but in this case there is a space left between the bone fragments, meaning that surgery is usually required.
  • Compression fractures, which mean that the vertebrae move closer together, which can cause you to appear shorter or even to hunch forward.
  • Greenstick fractures, which involve bones that are partially broken, without the bone breaking all the way through.

If you suspect you’ve suffered a fracture or a crushing injury that may result in a broken bone, it’s crucial to get evaluated by a doctor. A doctor can order MRI scans or x-rays to diagnose a fracture. If you do have a broken bone, you may need a cast or you may need surgery to reposition the bone with screws and plates so it can heal correctly.

Not getting treatment in time can mean your body starts to reknit bones together incorrectly, which can permanently affect your mobility. You may even need corrective surgery later. Failing to get medical attention for your bone fracture can also lead to many complications, including severe pain and infection.

Why You Might Need a Hollywood Car Accident Attorney

The treatment process for a broken bone can include splints or casts, surgery, and physical therapy. The costs for these treatments can be more than you expect and while you’re healing you might not be able to go to work, meaning you could lose out on income.

Your car insurance can help pay for some of the costs, but you may have other options, too. For example, if someone was negligent and contributed to or caused your injuries, you may have a claim against that liable party.

The first step after your injury is to think carefully about how much your fracture will really cost you in pain, suffering, lost income, and medical bills. Then, you’ll want to find out how much financial recovery you can seek so you don’t have to pay these bills yourself.

I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
